Getting to know Oman

Full Name : Sultanate of Oman เมื่อช่วงเดือนตุลาคมที่ผ่านมา ผมได้มีโอกาสไปเที่ยวประเทศโอมาน ผมเลยอยากจะแนะนำให้ทุกคนรู้จักประเทศโอมานกันคร่าวๆหน่อยนะครับ Oman เป็นประเทศที่ตั้งอยู่ในตะวันออกกลาง หรือคาบสมุทรอาหรับ มีการปกครองแบบสมบูรณายาสิทธิราชโดยมีสุลต่านเป็นประมุข ผมรู้สึกว่าโอมานเป็นหนึ่งในประเทศที่มีเสน่ห์มากกว่าหลายๆประเทศในตะวันออกกลาง เนื่องจากโอมานยังมีเสน่ห์และวัฒนธรรมที่ยังมีความดั้งเดิมอยู่มาก เมืองหลวงไม่ได้มีตึกสูงที่สุด หรือใหญ่ที่สุด แต่ผมคิดว่าเป็นประเทศที่มีเสน่ห์มากที่สุดจากที่ผมทำการค้นคว้ามา รวมถึงโอมานมีภูมิประเทศที่หลากหลายกว่าหลายๆประเทศในแถบนั้น มีทั้งทะเล ภูเขา หน้าผา โอเอซิส ทะเลทราย เมือง และจริงๆแล้ว โอมานมีส่วนทางตอนเหนือที่ถูกคั่นด้วย United Arab Emirates ซึ่งทางด้านบนนั้นมีลักษณะที่เป็น Fjord อีกด้วย Capital City : Muscat กรุงมัสกัต เป็นเมืองหลวงและเมืองที่ใหญ่ที่สุดของโอมาน

Language : Arabic; English มีภาษาอารบิกเป็นภาษาราชการแต่คนส่วนใหญ่สามารถสื่อสารภาษาอังกฤษได้ Arabic is the official language, but English is widely understood.

People of Oman : Omani คนโอมานเรียกว่า Omani

Religion : Islam ประเทศโอมานมีศาสนาอิลามเป็นศาสนาหลักของประเทศ ดังนั้นจะมีการทำละหมาดอยู่เสมอ และผู้หญิงจะต้องแต่งการมิดชิดเมื่อเข้าไปในสถานที่สาธารณะหรือมัสยิด --------------------------------------------------------- Currency : OMR (Oman Rial) สกุลเงินของประเทศโอมาน คือ โอมานเรียล ซึ่งราคาช่วงที่ผมเดินทางนั้นอยู่ที่ 90-92 ต่อ 1 เรียล โดยคนไทยสามารถแลกเป็นเงินเรียลไปได้เลย จะได้ไม่ต้องไปแลกอีกที โดยผมแลกเงินผ่าน http://www.superrichthailand.com โดยสามารถเข้าไปเชคราคา และโทรถามว่ามีเงินให้แลกไหม โดยเงินของโอมานเป็นธนบัตรเกือบท้ังหมด มีเหรียญบ้างในซุปเปอร์มาร์เก็ต แต่เงินธนบัตรของโอมานใช้ง่าย มีธนบัตรใหญ่เป็นเงินเรียล และหน่อยย่อยเป็น Baisa การใช้ธนบัตรนั้นใช้ไม่ยาก สังเกตจากตัวเลขและตัวอักษรภาษาอังกฤษ แต่มีธนบัตรที่มีความคล้ายกันคือ ธนบัตร 1 เรียลสีแดง และธนบัตร 5 เรียล เพราะฉะนั้นอ่านตัวภาษาอังกฤษดีๆ

They use OMAN Rial, which the time of my travelling is 90.00-92.5 THB to 1 OMR. The Bank note is easy to use, there are Rial and Baisa. The 1 OMR and 5 OMR Bank Note is a bit tricky because of its colour. Just look at the number and the English indication carefully --------------------------------------------------------- Population : 4.2 Million ประชากร 4.2 ล้านคน ผมรู้สึกว่าประเทศโอมานมีประชากรไม่เยอะมาก เมื่อเทียบกับจำนวนประชากร เวลาไปไหนมาไหนจึงไม่รู้สึกว่าจะต้องไปเบียดเสียดกับผู้คน

Time : 3hrs behind Thailand เวลาของประเทศโอมานนั้นช้ากว่าประเทศไทยอยู่ 3 ชั่วโมง

Transportation : If you are in the Middle East, car is your best friend. And if you really into adventure, you should have a 4x4 to go to the Grand Canyon and to Wahiba Sands. In Oman, you are driving on the right side of the road (Same as Europe, not UK).The speed limit is mostly indicated on main highway, main roads, and villages. There are a a lot of cameras along the main road. Usually it’s 100-120 km/hr on the main road. And lower in the cities and villages. Roads condition here is really great, the road is big and wide. Only in mountains and desert which are unpaved. The Gasoline here is inexpensive and there will always be someone to help you with the filling and you pay to them, not in the shop. Also the Google Map is useful when driving in Oman, but it doesn't speak. So you should have someone tell you when is your next turn, especially in Muscat's complicated roads.

Greetings = As-salám aláykum Thank you = Shúkra Frankincense; is an aromatic resin used in incense and perfumes, obtained from trees --------------------------------------------------------- When is good to go : Good time to go is Between October - April, because the weather is getting less and bearable. The time when I was travelling, the weather on the land was ok, 32-37 in day time and 25-30 in the night. In Jebel Shams the weather was really nice, in the morning it was 13 and warming up to 27. -------------------------------------------------------- Packing Essentials : - Hat, sunglasses and protection - A lot of water - Closed shoes and hiking shoes - Map - Mosquito repellent - Food (Drive can be long, and sometimes there are no shops, especially in desert and mountain.
